    Canmore is a town in Alberta, Canada. It is located in the Bow Valley west of Calgary in the Rocky Mountains. The town was named after Malcolm III, better known as Macbeth, who was the King of Scots from 1040 until his death in 1057. Canmore is Gaelic for “big head”.

    The town’s origins date back to 1884 when coal was discovered in the area. The Canadian Pacific Railway built a station here and miners soon flocked to the area. In 1886, the town was incorporated and soon became a bustling community with hotels, stores and restaurants.

    During the early 20th century, Canmore began to decline as the coal mines began to close. However, it experienced a renaissance in the 1970s when it was discovered to be a great place to live and play. Today, Canmore is a thriving community with a population of over 15,000 people. It is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts as it offers superb hiking, climbing, biking and skiing opportunities.
