Most of us are pretty good at making lists. We make grocery lists, to-do lists, bucket lists…the list goes on. But there’s one kind of list that we’re not so good at making: to-be lists.
A to-be list is a list of the qualities and characteristics we want to cultivate in ourselves. It’s a road map for becoming the best version of ourselves.
The question isn’t what do we want to do, it’s who do we want to be?
Here are a few things you might want to put on your own personal to-be list:
Patient –> One quality that many of us could stand to cultivate more of is patience. In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the need for instant gratification. But learning to be patient can pay off in big ways. When we’re patient, we’re more likely to make better decisions, have healthier relationships, and be less stressed.
Compassionate –> Another quality that would benefit us all is compassion. Compassion is about understanding and empathizing with others, even when they’ve done something that hurts us. It’s about giving people the benefit of the doubt and recognizing that everyone is fighting their own battles.
Courageous –> Courage doesn’t mean that you never feel fear, it just means that you don’t let your fear stop you from doing what you know is right. Having the courage to stand up for yourself and others, to speak your truth, and to pursue your dreams can be scary, but it’s always worth it.
So, what’s on your to-be list? Who do you want to be?
