As many of you know if you follow my social media feeds that Moraine Lake is one of my all-time favourite lakes in Alberta.
Yes, as of June 6th, 2022, the road to Moraine Lake is open for the season. This stunning lake is located in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The road closure is typically in effect from mid-October until late May. For up-to-date information about road closures and conditions in Banff National Park, you can check out the park’s website or call the recorded information line at 403-762-1470.
If you’re planning on visiting Moraine Lake during your time in Banff National Park, there are a few things you should know. First of all, the lake is only accessible by foot or via shuttle bus. There is no parking available at the lake itself, so you’ll need to either take the shuttle or walk the 2.8 kilometers from the Moraine Lake Lodge.
The best time to visit Moraine Lake is early in the morning, before the crowds start to arrive. This is also when the light is best for photography. If you’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the lake’s famous “Ten Peaks,” make sure to be there before 8am.
When you’re planning your visit to Banff National Park, be sure to add Moraine Lake to your list of must-see sights!
If you end up going, please do let me know — always excited for others to visit a place that is so near and dear.
